I made the decision a while ago to update the covers of my trilogies. I had been blessed with amazing artists in my circle, and collaboration with them is something I will always treasure. But, due to life, neither artist could do all 3 books in the time frame I needed them. Getting ready to walk into the festival season, I needed uniformity I could get fast.
So, I took the artwork from my amazing artists, tweaked it in chat GPT, Picsart, paint, images, and a few other programs, and I built my own covers. It involved (and is continuing to involve) countless hours tweaking, trying again, being frustrated that a computer can’t do a simple color swap or image swap, and deciding when I liked what I had enough to quit over-analyzing it.
Today, I finished the first book cover. It’s a bit bittersweet to say goodbye to an old cover. The crazy process of creation—the many emotions. (Behind the Veil’s artist , Cireliz Alaniz had drawn me the picture on the back cover in 8th grade—it was exactly my book—I’ve kept it in the new edition. She also agreed to draw the cover during a time of intense grief after the loss of her sweet daughter Mili to SIDS—the book was both dedicated to Mili and published on what would have been her first birthday.).
As you can see, many emotions. But, as I replace the old, it will forever be a cherished friend, as is the artist who drew it. Memories—what a gift. I’m so grateful for this journey. Here’s to a new adventure.
